New parish merger announced
The Diocese of Madison has announced the creation of a new merged parish — St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish — effective June 20.
The merger of St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish unites the church communities of St. Pius X Church in Cambridge, St. Joseph Church in Fort Atkinson, St. John the Baptist Church and St. Lawrence Church in Jefferson (most recently part of St. Francis of Assisi Parish), St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church in Milton, St. Mary Church in Palmyra, and St. Mary Help of Christians Church in Sullivan.
St. Joseph School in Fort Atkinson and St. John the Baptist School in Jefferson are also part of the parish.
Msgr. Donald Heiar will serve as the pastor, with Fr. Jayaraj Kalivela, Fr. John Silva, Fr. David Timmerman, and Fr. José Luis Vazquez serving as parochial vicars.
Father Vazquez will be assisting with Hispanic ministry at the parish.
Father Silva’s assignment lasts until July 1, when he will begin his new assignment at St. Jane Frances de Chantal Parish in Janesville.
Fr. Barry Meinholz, a newly ordained priest for the Diocese of Madison, will be assigned as parochial vicar to the parish effective July 1.
A Mass of installation for Monsignor Heiar will be celebrated at a later date.
A future Catholic Herald article will cover the installation and more about the merger.
