As an intern with the Catholic Diocese of Madison Foundation (CDMF), I had the incredible opportunity to learn about the inner workings of several charitable organizations across the Diocese of Madison. 

I spoke to many wonderful people who generously shared their own stories, and I have come to learn more of the true, authentic kindness and Christ-like love shown by people across our local communities.

I had the opportunity to interview CDMF fundholders who generously support countless charitable organizations. 

Those individuals have many different reasons for giving. Some want to make an impact or show the importance of leaving a family legacy, encouraging future generations to continuously contribute to the longevity of the Catholic Church. 

Others want to create funds to memorialize loved ones, supporting the missions those loved ones held close to their hearts. 

There are also fundholders who created funds to provide opportunities for students and seminarians, such as providing scholarships for education or music and arts programs, or for assistance for students with physical and mental disabilities.

When asked what he would like to tell others about the importance of giving, fundholder Matthew Gonnering replied, “The importance of giving is the impact that it has.” 

This quote perfectly summarizes what it means to give to those in need, reflecting the mission of the CDMF and demonstrating how our generosity is central to our Catholic Faith.

I also had the opportunity to interview a grant recipient who expressed profound gratitude towards our CDMF donors and to the foundation. 

Grant recipients receive funds for a wide variety of needs, including those related to education, community services, and the mission of the Catholic church.  

In an interview with Korie Klink, an art teacher at St. Joseph School in Baraboo, she expressed sincere and deep gratitude towards the donors who made a grant possible to help expand the music and arts program to younger students at the school.

My work as an intern with the CDMF provided me the opportunity to learn about and appreciate the true impact of giving on many different levels, providing numerous perspectives and countless fresh stories. 

This opportunity to see the diocese from a different perspective has also brought forth new connections and relationships. 

I am incredibly grateful for this experience and for my opportunity to help the CDMF build awareness around the profound impact of giving.
