MADISON — Pro-life groups from around the state will hold a rally and march on Saturday, Jan. 31, to protest the plans by University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics (UWHC) and Meriter Hospital to perform late-term abortions at the jointly operated Madison Surgery Center.
The rally will start at 12:15 p.m. on the 700 block of State St. (Library Mall). After the rally, the group will march to the clinic at 1 S. Park St.
The UWHC Board is expected to vote on the late-term abortion plan on February 4. Organizers of the rally and march say the hope is “to show the board that the people of Wisconsin do not want to turn a fine medical facility into a center for killing and dismembering pre-born children,” and that it may be the “last, best shot to stop these plans.”
All are invited to attend the rally and march, to sign an online petition at www.wrtl.org/petition2/, and to continue sending letters to the president and CEOs of UWHC and Meriter Hospital. For addresses to send letters, see Page 6, or go to www.madison catholicherald.org/letters/347 For more information on the rally, e-mail vigilforlife@gmail.com
The plan to begin performing abortions at the Madison Surgery Center has met with strong opposition from pro-life groups. A protest was held January 8 at the clinic, and most recently a vigil was held at the Planned Parenthood Clinic in Madison January 22 to pray for all lives lost to abortion.
