SINSINAWA — Dominican Sister Marie Jordan Beausoleil died Aug. 25, 2009, at St. Dominic Villa, Sinsinawa. The Mass of Resurrection was held in Queen of the Rosary Chapel at Sinsinawa Aug. 28, 2009, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sister Marie Jordan made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican Aug. 5, 1947, and her final profession Aug. 5, 1950. She ministered as an elementary and junior high teacher for 33 years, six of those also serving as principal. She held various secretarial positions for the Congregation for 20 years and volunteered in the Motherhouse library for nine years. She served in Illinois, Wyoming, Wisconsin, California and Minnesota.
In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Marie Jordan ministered as a secretary for various areas of the Congregation, serving as secretary of the Northwest Province, 1971-1975; the Congregation, 1976-1977; and the Southwest Province, 1991-1992, as well as the assistant to the secretary of the Congregation, 1986-1991 and 1992-2000. She volunteered in the Motherhouse library, Sinsinawa, 2000-2009.
Sister Marie Jordan was born Jan. 30, 1923, in Anaconda, Mont., the daughter of George and Anna Marie (Callahan) Beausoleil. Her parents and a brother, Paul Beausoleil, preceded her in death. She is survived by two sisters, Sister Victoire Beausoleil, OP, and Evelyn Carroll, and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared life for 62 years.
