SINSINAWA — Dominican Sister Marie William Cahill died June 11, 2009, at St. Dominic Villa, Sinsinawa. The Mass of Resurrection was held in Queen of the Rosary Chapel at Sinsinawa June 15, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sister Marie William was born April 23, 1911, in Bradford, Ill. She made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican March 8, 1935, and her final profession August 5, 1938. She taught elementary and junior high school for 36 years and was principal for 13 years and assistant principal for seven years. She served in congregation leadership as a provincial councilor for eight years and as finance officer for the Southwest Province for seven years. Sister Marie William also served as a parish minister, librarian, and alumnae director. Her ministries took her to Nebraska, Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, California, Texas, and Colorado.
In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Marie William taught and was principal at St. Mary, Portage, 1957-1963. She served as a councilor for the Sinsinawa Dominican Southwest Province, 1971-1976; finance officer for the Sinsinawa Dominican Western Province, 1992-1999; and volunteer for the Western Province, 1999-2002. She lived in community at the Motherhouse and St. Dominic Villa, both Sinsinawa.
