Vice President Dick Cheney presents Sr. Mary Jean Ryan, president/CEO, SSM Health Care, with the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award certificate at a ceremony held recently in Alexandria, Va.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- SSM Health Care, the parent organization of St. Marys Hospital and St. Marys Care Center in Madison and St. Clare Hospital and Health Services and St. Clare Meadows in Baraboo, became the first ever health care organization to win the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award (MBNQA).

It was presented at a recent ceremony in Alexandria by Vice President Dick Cheney.

SSM Health Care (SSMHC), a St. Louis-based not-for-profit health system of hospitals and other health-related entities, has become the first health care organization in the country to be named an MBNQA winner. SSMHC was one of 17 health care institutions to apply for the award.

In Wisconsin, besides the St. Marys and St. Clare facilities, SSMHC sponsors manages Boscobel Area Health Care in Boscobel and is affiliated with Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus and Stoughton Hospital in Stoughton. SSMHC has a limited affiliation with Upland Hills Health Center in Dodgeville.   Full story ...

Camp Gray: To celebrate 50 years at Founders' Day

BARABOO -- Happy 50th, Camp Gray!

All are invited to join Bishop Emeritus William H. Bullock and the Camp Gray Alumni Association on Saturday, July 12, for a very special Founders' Day celebration marking 50 years of vision and ministry at Camp Gray.

The afternoon will be packed with a schedule of camp-style fun for campers of all ages: fish for Walter, canoe in the pond, craft, swim (in a pool), ride a horse, climb the new tower, and reminisce with old camp friends over snacks in Helen Hall.

Bishop Bullock will celebrate Mass in the late afternoon, and a special dinner will be held to honor the Luke 22:26 Volunteer of the Year and past directors.

Former directors Fr. Larry Bakke and Jake Czarnik-Neimeyer will dedicate a piece of photo art for each of their eras of Camp Gray's history.   Full story ...
