MADISON — Pope Benedict XVI has invited the entire Church to celebrate a “Year of Faith” beginning this October. He emphasizes the need for all of us to rediscover the fundamental content of the faith so that we can live out the faith in all its truth, goodness, and beauty.
He proposes that the Catechism of the Catholic Church is a precious gift in which we find the fundamental content of the faith and see how it all fits together. He reminds us that in the Catechism we do not encounter a theory, but we actually encounter “a Person who lives within the Church,” the person of Jesus Christ.
People who want to encounter Christ more deeply and rediscover the “big picture” of the Catholic faith are invited to “The Main Event,” which is a weekly gathering of prayer, teaching, and discussion that will take attendees on a journey through Sacred Scripture and the Catechism, revealing how the Catholic faith fits together into one great, cohesive, beautiful story — the story of God’s plan for each of us to share in his own communion of life and love.
“The Main Event” is a perfect venue for Catholics who want to grow deeper in their faith as well as for people who are not Catholic, but are interested in learning more about the Catholic faith and what it has to say about the big questions in life.
Additionally, all of “The Main Event” sessions double as Seat of Wisdom classes, which is the catechist certification program of the Diocese of Madison. Those who are interested in earning their diocesan catechist certification, “The Main Event” is the quickest and easiest way to do it.
“The Main Event” is being held Tuesdays, beginning Sept. 4, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at St. Patrick Church, 404 E. Main St. For more information, contact Marc Laudonio at 608-257-5000, ext. 14, or marc@isthmuscatholic.org or visit “The Main Event” Web page on the Cathedral Parish Web site, www.isthmuscatholic.org, for more details and the full “The Main Event” schedule for the 2012 to 2013 year.
