MADISON — Bishop Donald J. Hying of Madison has named Kevin Wondrash as the editor of the Catholic Herald newspaper, effective July 1.
Wondrash has served as the publication’s interim editor since July of last year.
He assumed that role following the retirement of longtime editor Mary C. Uhler.
Wondrash joined the Catholic Herald staff in 2013 as the staff reporter. He was promoted to assistant editor in January of last year.
“Congratulations to Kevin Wondrash as our new editor of the Catholic Herald,” said Bishop Hying. “His deep Catholic faith, journalistic expertise, and commitment to our Go Make Disciples evangelizing initiative make him well equipped to lead our efforts to share the joyful Good News of Jesus Christ.”
Wondrash graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2006 majoring in journalism and communication arts. During his time at the UW, he served as the news director at WSUM 91.7 FM, Madison Student Radio, among other on-air roles.
Prior to joining the Catholic Herald staff, he worked in television news as a producer, photographer, and reporter at stations in Eau Claire and Madison.
Wondrash has won Catholic Press Awards for his writing during his time at the Catholic Herald.
He is a member of St. Maria Goretti Parish in Madison.
