Youth grow in faith, friendship at Frassati Fest

WISCONSIN DELLS — At the beginning of February, approximately 350 high school teens and chaperones gathered together at the Kalahari in the Wisconsin Dells to attend the 21st annual “Frassati Fest.”

This youth gathering is named after Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, who was from Italy and died at a young age. He is the patron of this event.

Grow in faith and friendship

This annual retreat offers a place for teens to encounter Jesus Christ and grow in faith and friendship with Catholic teens from all across the Diocese of Madison.

Preventing teen suicide both in community and home

After the 13 Reasons Why debut that dramatizes the reasons behind one teen girl’s suicide, there has been a significant amount of discussion regarding teenage suicide and preventing such actions.

Some authors have debated whether or not the Netflix series will harm or help adolescents when navigating both their own and their peers’ feelings regarding this important topic.

Here, however, I wish to discuss ways that you can identify whether or not your teen (or an adolescent you know) is at risk for taking their life, and then what you can do to help.

Teens join together to serve others

MADISON — “This is a place where you’ll make a difference.”

Those are bold words coming from Edgewood High School junior DC Morris, but they are true.

Morris, along with 21 other teens, makes up the St. Vincent de Paul (SVDP) Youth Service Council.

Nearly two years ago, the society’s District Council of Madison formed the council consisting of high school students who serve as representatives for their home parishes or schools.

Life Teen events in diocese

JEFFERSON/OREGON — Several Life Teen ministry events are coming to parishes in the Diocese of Madison.

A Life Teen local training will be held at Holy Mother of Consolation, 651 N. Main St., Oregon, on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The training is for youth ministers to learn best practices in youth ministry, based on the Life Teen ministry model. The goal is to help parishes lead teens closer to Christ. The cost of the training is $30 per person, and includes breakfast and lunch. Registration is required. Church needs to reach out with love to teenagers

Being a Catholic teenager is one of the hardest things to do. In this day and age believing in God is thought of as a disease. People make fun of Catholic beliefs and it is getting out of hand.

I am lucky enough to have amazing friends who support me in my faith, but so many others are afraid of showing theirs for fear of rejection.
