REEDSBURG — Camp Gray’s annual benefit dinner is said to be the most exciting fundraising event this side of the Mississippi, and on Saturday, April 18, the sixth annual dinner will be held with the theme “Love It While You Can.”
Raising over $25,000 for the camper scholarship fund, this event helps make summer camp possible for families who could not otherwise afford to send their kids.
MADISON — Totus Tuus is a new summer Catholic youth program in the Diocese of Madison dedicated to sharing the Gospel and promoting the Catholic faith through evangelization, catechesis, Christian witness, and Eucharistic worship.
The week-long parish summer catechetical program and summer camps assist parents and parishes in the evangelizing and catechizing of their youth by supplementing the work they are already doing.
MADISON — Students in Catholic schools devote much effort to mastering the subjects they study, like math, history, and literature, but also worthy of attention is how those students study, according to St. Ambrose Academy history and science teacher Michael Kwas.
“Good students aren’t usually the smartest ones,” Kwas said. “Instead, they are the ones who have learned how to study and have developed the best work habits.”
By Thursday afternoon, things were in full swing at Camp Gray. Campers, ranging in age from second-graders to young adults who just finished high school, spent the last few days growing closer to God together and having fun together.
When you’re a kid, summer means camp — and camp means being outdoors, swimming, playing games, making new friends and seeing old ones, eating new foods, and just plain having fun.
Following are the 2012 summer assignments of Diocese of Madison seminarians for all or part of the summer:
The woodsy campsite was abuzz with activity during the last week of Camp Gray. Campers talked, laughed, and engaged in their new favorite game, played inside an octagon, which they call “Panda Ball.”
The summer of the odd-numbered year is usually quiet on the political scene. By early July the Legislature has completed its work on the state budget and goes home until autumn. Other than an occasional special election, the campaign season is more than a year away.
This column is the bishop’s communication with the faithful of the Diocese of Madison. Any wider circulation reaches beyond the intention of the bishop. |
Dear Friends,
“Back-to-school” and “Labor Day” mean for me, among other things, back to my column with as much regularity as I can muster for any given week. Thanks be to God, the summer was, for me, a serene time of priestly renewal. Of course, there are always problems in a diocese or in a parish that require attention from the bishop, and that attention is always ready to be given, but the grace of the Office of Bishop sustained me beautifully through a summer of serious priestly renewal, and I would like to trace the path of that renewal for you briefly in this first column after Labor Day.
