On the beautiful spring day of Wednesday, April 23, students at St. Dennis School in Madison excitedly put on their coats and hurriedly made their way to the doors while teachers and staff — also with smiles on their faces — did their best to keep all the kids from running outside at once.

Threads of Hope: Providing hope for families in the Philippines
BERLIN — As a part of our local wellness campaign, “Read. Run. Reach,” All Saints Catholic School (ASCS) in Berlin is partnering with an organization called “Threads of Hope” in an effort to provide hope for families at risk and in need in the Philippines and for children and their families in our own community who may need medical assistance.
It has been over four months since Typhoon Haiyan wreaked havoc in the Philippines, but the effects of the storm are still very visible. Many families continue to suffer from the aftermath of the Super Storm, which left nearly the entire island in shambles.
St. Dennis student to dance in world championships in London
MADISON — On Friday, April 11, 13-year-old Bridget Thompson and her family will be leaving for London as the seventh grader from St. Dennis School in Madison gets ready to take part in the World Championships of Irish Dance.
Bridget earned her spot in the championships at the 2013 Mid-America Oireachtas (pronounced “oh-rock-toose”) competition in Grand Rapids, Mich., this past December. She placed 15th out of more than 130 girls.

CUBA CITY — Venerable Fr. Samuel Mazzuchelli died on February 23, 1864.
In recognition of the 150th anniversary of his death, the students of St. Rose of Lima Catholic School in Cuba City presented the play Medicine for Wildcat on Wednesday, Feb. 26, at St. Rose Church.
Bloomington parish to hold dinner and variety show
BLOOMINGTON — For 25 years, people in Bloomington and the surrounding areas looked forward to forgetting their problems and getting rid of the “winter blues” by attending the St. Mary’s Parish Players’ hilarious comedy productions.
Because of the enormous amount of time involved in producing a play, the Players decided it was time to retire — but not completely.

Edgewood High School goes ‘Crazy for You’
MADISON — The Edgewood High School (EHS) spring musical is Crazy for You, winner of the 1992 Tony Award for Best Musical.
Based on the original Gershwin musical Girl Crazy, but incorporating music from many different Gershwin shows, Crazy for You is a high energy romantic comedy with a storyline designed to be an entertaining background for the fabulous dance numbers and memorable Gershwin music.
Food fair and farmer’s market in Reedsburg
REEDSBURG — To support local growers and to educate the public about sustainably-grown and locally produced foods, the Justice and Peace Commission of Diocesan Cluster 350 is holding its fourth annual “Food Fair and Farmers’ Market” on Saturday, March 8, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Sacred Heart School Gym, corner of 6th and Willow Sts.
St. Joseph School in Baraboo expanding to include middle school program
BARABOO — St. Joseph Catholic School is re-establishing its middle school program and has started open enrollment.
During each of the next three years, the school will add one grade level, starting with a sixth-grade class next school year and seventh- and eighth-grade classes added in the two subsequent years.
The school currently offers a daycare, four-year-old kindergarten (4K), and kindergarten through fifth-grade classes. In 4K through fifth grades, the school has a total enrollment of 143 students.
