‘Running of the Rose’ at Durward’s Glen
BARABOO — To pay special tribute to Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Knights of Columbus are sponsoring a Silver Rose Run, which involves running three Silver Roses from Ontario through the U.S. to Monterey, Mexico. The “Running of the Rose” will journey to Durward’s Glen where a special service will be held Friday, June 20, at 7 p.m. at the Mary Mother of God Grotto.
Following the procession of the rose by Fourth Degree Knights, Deacon Dennis Sutter will guide those attending through the Rosary, Liturgy of the Word, and Act of Consecration.
Our Lady of Guadalupe Silver Rose Run
In 1960, Squires of the Knights of Columbus in Mexico, the United States, and Canada came up with the idea of honoring Mary with a rose. Mary used the rose as a sign of her appearance at Guadalupe.
They started at London in Ontario, Canada, and ended at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Monterrey, Mexico, presenting Mary with a live rose.
The following year, both a bronze rose and a silver rose were used. The decision was made to use a silver rose in the future. The silver rose is crafted from a real rose.

St. Rose church buddies plan Mass

Sister brings joy to others despite terminal cancer
CROSS PLAINS — There’s a special parking space in front of St. Francis Xavier’s parish office — a cone with lots of markings letting people know — this spot is reserved for Sister John Rose.
In recent weeks, you could see signs all around Cross Plains asking for prayers and encouraging her to, “Hang in there, Sister!” I found her inside the church, moving around the facility, attending to visitors. She was willing to take a little time to talk about her recent diagnosis.
Sr. John Rose Acker has been involved in pastoral ministry at St. Francis Xavier Parish in Cross Plains for 23 years, where she ministers to the sick, elderly, and dying. Prior to that, she was a teacher for 32 years. She celebrates 62 years as a School Sister of St. Francis this year.
Heroes for Life: Lila’s way: Take some risks
Author’s note: This is the third in our series of interviews on Heroes for Life — Catholics who are doing extraordinary things for the pro-life movement. Below are comments from Lila Rose, a recent graduate from UCLA and the founder of Live Action, a pro-life youth organization, Lila Rose is a veteran activist at age 23.
I found out about abortion at a young age and it changed me; I wanted to do something. After six years of being active in our local community, I founded Live Action in 2003 when I was 15. That was the beginning of my vision of approaching pro-life activism with aggressive education by using the truth revealed through undercover investigations in abortion centers.

Lies and Live Action

Encountering the risen Lord
Cecil DeMille, the famous movie director, was enjoying an overdue vacation at a Maine lake resort.
He was reading a book in a canoe, when he noticed a water beetle crawling up the boat’s side. When the beetle got halfway up, it stuck the talons of its legs to the canoe’s wood and died.
DeMille resumed reading. Three hours later he glanced again at the water beetle. What he saw amazed him. The beetle had dried up and its back began to crack open. First, a moist head, then wings, and finally a tail emerged. Out of apparent death, new life emerged in the form of a magnificent dragonfly.
As the dragonfly dazzled his eyes with its acrobatic flight, Cecil De Mille nudged the dried out beetle shell with his finger. It looked like a tomb.
From Good Friday to Easter
The water beetle’s amazing transformation reminds us of what happened to Jesus on Good Friday when he truly died on the cross and rose from the dead.
Jesus’ body that rose on Easter was different from the body buried on Good Friday. It was not a resuscitated body, restored to its original life like that of Lazarus or Jairus’ daughter. It was a risen glorified body.
