I read the article by Bishop Jerome E. Listecki in the November 6, 2008, edition of the Catholic Herald. In particular his comments on the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) were a call to action. Please review his article to grasp the nefarious nature of this act.

MADISON — Theresa and Kevin Burke, the founders of Rachel’s Vineyard, were in Madison recently to offer training for priests, therapists, and other pro-life workers on the trauma of abortion and healing after abortion, and to train teams for Rachel’s Vineyard retreats.

In Mr. Lins letter (Mailbag, October 9, 2008), he stated that “Respecting life should include lives lost in wars.” No one, liberal or conservative, wants to see any human life lost, but comparing lives lost in wars in Afghanistan and Iraq to the 4,000 lives ended by abortion every single day in our country alone is ridiculous!

Nowhere in the “Respect Life” issue of September 25 did I find any mention of the thousands of innocent lives that have been, and will still be, lost in the ongoing wars taking place in Iraq and Afghanistan. Don’t these lives deserve prayerful recognition as well?
Thirty-five roses were presented during the offertory at the Respect Life Mass at St. Patrick Church, beginning the Liturgy of the Eucharist on this Respect Life Sunday with a reminder of those who have lost their lives by abortion, euthanasia, executions and violence, especially the millions killed since abortion was legalized in the United States in 1963.

Douglas Kmiec, former constitutional legal counsel to Presidents Reagan and Bush, architect of Reagan’s pro-life policies, and arguably the nation’s brightest conservative Catholic legal mind, recently argued that Catholics concerned about the sanctity of life and social justice are best served by an Obama presidency.
The 40 Days for Life campaign began its ten-day countdown to the start of 40 days of prayer with a kick-off at Reindahl Park in Madison on September 13. The picnic and talks were followed by a walk to the nearby Planned Parenthood clinic on Orin Rd., praying the Rosary for an end to abortion.
