Parish hosts Piano Recital and Hymn Sing on new piano
MADISON — There will be a Piano Recital and Hymn Sing on Sunday, Nov. 18, at 4 p.m. at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 401 S. Owen Dr.
Yana Avedyan, DMA, will be the guest artist. She will perform the following works: Bach’s Prelude and Fugue 1 WTC No. 2, Beethoven’s Sonata Op 27 No. 1 movements 2 and 3, and Liszt’s Rhapsody No. 6.
Avedyan will be playing on the new Steinway Model B Grand Piano. Amy Yanzer, director of liturgy and pastoral music at Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish, explains the background of the new piano.
Our Lady Queen of Peace School hosts inaugural Game Day planned by Spirit Club
MADISON — Our Lady Queen of Peace School (a.k.a. QP) recently hosted an inaugural QP Game Day, which promoted school athletics in a festive, interactive atmosphere that excited players, coaches, and fans.
Organized by QP’s own Spirit Club, which is made up of over 20 middle school students, the event was filled with activities to promote athletics and school pride.
The fall Game Day focused on girls volleyball, as QP’s fifth to eighth grade teams faced off against opponents from other Madison Area Independent Sports League (MAISL) schools.Film to be shown during Peace Week in Janesville

Food Fair & Farmers’ Market in Reedsburg
REEDSBURG — The joint Justice & Peace Commission of three Sauk County Catholic parishes (Sacred Heart-Reedsburg, Holy Family-LaValle, and St. Boniface-Lime Ridge) is holding its eighth annual Food Fair & Farmers’ Market on Saturday, March 3, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Sacred Heart School Gym in Reedsburg.
The fair is an effort to support local growers, help people purchase locally grown foods, and educate the public about sustainably-grown and locally-produced foods. There will be a gym full of vendors offering pastured meats, vegetables, grains, flours, seeds, preserves, cheese, bakery goods, maple syrup, mushrooms, and honey.
A Lenten response to violence
It was interesting to see people with crosses on their foreheads in the crowds shown after the school shootings in Parkland, Fla.
Of course, the shootings occurred on Ash Wednesday, so some of the parents and other family members had gone to Mass during the day.
Is there a message for us? The more I thought about it, I think there is.
Christ is our hope and our peace
This past weekend we heard the moving story of the man healed by Jesus of leprosy (Mk 1:40-45). Now, it’s a miraculous story of Jesus healing someone from a painful and humiliating disease, and that in its own right is worthy of our consideration.
