Giving more attention to peaceful actions
During Memorial Day weekend, I sat in front of my TV, totally captivated by the images on the screen — live chaos on State St. and in the downtown area in Madison.
Our area’s version of the protests following the death of George Floyd had disintegrated into violence, looting, angry shouting, and even a police car set on fire live on TV among other negative pictures.
For those seeking dialogue, attention, and something good out of the day’s events, these actions left sour images in many minds as the week went on.Finding rest in troubled times
Like many people, I’ve been getting little sleep these days, pondering the troubles plaguing the world.
Amidst tumultuous times, finding a way to rest a while is imperative — for mental health, for the strength to care for one’s family.Statement from Bishop Hying on death of George Floyd

MADISON — Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish (QP) saw an overflow of generosity at its first Drive-Thru Food Drive to benefit the Catholic Multicultural Center (CMC) on the morning of Sunday, April 19.
“Many of you are asking for ways to help as COVID-19 continues to affect our community on a daily basis, so QP’s Social Action and Community Enrichment Board teamed up with the St. Vincent de Paul conference to find a creative way to help our neighbors in need!” read the Facebook event page that was posted just six days before the event.
“We need your help to feed the hundreds of families that are continuing to suffer by filling the Catholic Multicultural Center’s food pantry!”
High turnout
Thirty-eight individuals expressed interest on Facebook before the event, but the turnout was “more than we were anticipating,” said Annette Fox, director of the parish’s Social Action and Community Enrichment board. “It was awesome. Filled the van plus some!”Our Lady Queen of Peace students raise money for Australia in online art auction

Working for peace in the new year
We begin each new year with the feast of the Solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God. The World Day of Peace also occurs on January 1.
Mary, the mother of God, gave birth to the prince of peace, who helped the human race to begin anew to work for peace.
Be persons of peace
Since New Year’s is a time to make resolutions, one resolution might be to continue to try to be persons of peace during the new year.
Prayer and dialogue needed for peace
Almost every day we hear about terrorist attacks, escalating violence, and wars throughout the world.
We wonder whether peace is even possible. And if it is, how do we achieve it?
We don’t build peace by weapons, but by prayer and dialogue, Pope Francis said in a message to a religious peace meeting which opened on September 15.
