Support our immigrant brothers and sisters
“For I was hungry and you gave me food. I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me” (Mt 25:35).
All of us (except Native Americans) who live in the United States are descended from immigrants.
My own ancestors came from Ireland, Germany, and Belgium seeking a better life in this country for themselves and their families. Most of them were Catholic, so they also wanted a place where they could worship freely.
Immigrants have continued to come to the United States. Many are welcomed by the Statue of Liberty in New York City’s harbor with words inscribed on the statue’s pedestal that say: “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.”

From September 26 to September 29, the Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Our Lady of Fatima made stops in the diocese as part of its U.S. Tour for Peace.
Statue of Our Lady visits diocese
We living in the Diocese of Madison have a unique opportunity to view the world-famous International Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Our Lady of Fatima.
The statue will be visiting four cities in our diocese (see schedule) and will be displayed outside the Planned Parenthood clinic in Madison on Thursday, Sept. 29, at 3 p.m.
I did some research on this statue, and it has a remarkable story.
Pray the Rosary daily for world peace
To the editor:
There was a write-up in the Dubuque Telegraph Herald about the kidnapping and rescue of the mother of Fr. Paul Arinze. I was overjoyed when I heard of her rescue.
Even more awesome was the fact that she distracted herself by praying the Rosary on her fingers all through this frightening ordeal. What a powerful weapon is Mary’s Rosary, and how she shows her care for those who pray her Rosary faithfully!
