After seven weeks of catechesis, silly skits, and shaving cream fights in the heat of June, July, and August, the Diocese of Madison’s Totus Tuus team completed another summer of sharing fun and faith with kids.

Love Begins Here finishes 11th summer of doing small things with great love

As stated in part of its mission manifesto, hundreds of teens in the Diocese of Madison came alive this summer as they participated in Love Begins Here.
Growing in knowledge of faith in the diocese
MADISON — “Being Christian is not the result of an ethical choice or a lofty idea, but the encounter with an event, a person, which gives life a new horizon and a decisive direction.”
We begin by reflecting on these words by Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, which define our mission as Christians as being a disciple to Christ and thus our relationship with him gives “direction” to our lives.
Love Begins Here completes seventh summer
For the past seven summers, the middle and high schoolers of Love Begins Here (LBH), along with their leaders, have performed more than 45,000 hours of doing “small things with great love.”
Mary has been with Mother Olga throughout her life
VERONA — “The only way I was able to get to all these places and get to where I am today is because of one mother.”
When Mother Olga — who spoke the above words — talks about her life, people listen. When the gentle soul, only 4’10” but tall in love of Jesus and love for Mary, shared her story with hundreds of people, all eyes and ears were focused on her. She got everyone’s full attention.

Catechetical leaders learn to respond to growing societal pressures redefining marriage
MADISON — Catechetical leaders from across the Diocese of Madison recently met to discuss and explore the topic of same sex marriage.
This event at the Bishop O’Connor Center in Madison was co-sponsored by the Office of Evangelization and Catechesis and Madison Diocese Religious Education Organization (MDREO). It was exclusive to parish catechetical leaders, Catholic school principals, and priests in the Diocese of Madison.
New catechetical standards launched for Year of Faith
MADISON — As the Diocese of Madison prepares for the Year of Faith, it is perhaps by Divine Providence that our parishes and schools will also be implementing a new body of Catechetical Standards for grades Pre-K through eight in the 2012-13 academic year.
Beginning with a process initiated in early 2011, a committee was assembled by the diocesan Office of Catholic Schools and the Office of Evangelization and Catechesis to assist in drafting these new standards.
Catechists blazing the trail’ for the Year of Faith
MADISON — Last October, Pope Benedict XVI released his apostolic letter Porta Fidei (“The Door of Faith”) announcing a Year of Faith to begin for the Universal Church on October 11, 2012, and concluding on the Feast of Christ the King, November 24, 2013.
