Former Protestant minister to speak at Monona parish
MONONA — Former Protestant minister Bruce Sullivan will present his life-changing conversion story at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 5101 Schofield St., on Thursday, July 23, from 7 to 9 p.m.
As a former Church of Christ minister, Bruce Sullivan was a zealous apostle for what he believed to be the true Gospel. As such, he was also ardently anti-Catholic. In fact, his dream was to be a missionary to the largest Catholic nation in the world — Brazil.
All of that changed, however, when he was confronted with the truth and beauty of the Catholic faith while trying to “evangelize” a Catholic family that had moved into his community.
Christopher Padilla ordained to transitional diaconate
MONONA — Christopher Padilla was ordained by Bishop Robert C. Morlino as a transitional deacon on Friday, June 5, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Monona.
Bishop Morlino thanked everyone for coming to the “night of great joy.”
Deacon Padilla is a member of the Society of Jesus Christ the Priest.
Run/walk at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Monona
MONONA — Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM) School, 4913 Schofield St., invites everyone to S.O.A.R. — Support Our Athletic Race — on Sunday, May 24.
On-site registration and packet pickup for the run/walk is available from 1 to 2:30 p.m. The 5K race starts at 3 p.m. and the one-mile race begins at 3:05 p.m.
Hispanic families plan festival on May 2
MONONA — On Saturday, May 2, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., parents and friends of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM) Catholic School Advantage (CSA) program will be hosting the third annual Hispanic Heritage Festival at 4913 Schofield St.
CSA parents invite all those in the community to support the children and their families by attending the festival. The Hispanic Heritage Festival is the primary fundraiser that supports the CSA program and the scholarships necessary to meet the needs of an increasing population of Hispanic families in the area who desire a Catholic school education for their children.
Philharmonic Chorus of Madison concerts
MADISON — The Philharmonic Chorus of Madison will perform free concerts on Wednesday, April 29, 7 p.m., at Oakwood West; Friday, May 1, 7:30 p.m., at Monona United Methodist Church; and Sunday, May 3, 2 p.m., at Bethany United Methodist Church.
The chorus, under the direction of Patrick Gorman, will perform Aaron Copland’s In the Beginning with soloist Shannon O’Brien-Kaszuba.
Considered the Dean of American Music, Copland composed the choral work in 1947, setting 38 verses from the Book of Genesis.
Divine Mercy Sunday to be celebrated on April 12
MADISON/SAUK CITY/ MONONA — St. John Paul II declared in the Great Jubilee year 2000 that throughout the Church, the Sunday after Easter will be known as Divine Mercy Sunday.

The message of the Divine Mercy is that God is love itself poured out for us and this love is more powerful than any kind of evil in which individuals, humanity, or the world are entangled. All need Divine Mercy.
Polish community keeps Easter traditions
MONONA — The Polish Heritage Club’s annual Spring Festival will be held on Sunday, March 29, from 10 a.m. to 3 p. m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary School, 4913 Schofield St.
A Palm Sunday tradition, the festival features the sale of Polish baked goods, paczki, packaged kielbasa and pierogies (from Chicago), amber jewelry, imported crafts and Boleslawiec pottery, toys, books, and more.
Services to be held for Fr. Loran Miller
MADISON — A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Monona on Tuesday, Feb. 10, for Fr. Loran Miller, OFM Cap., 77, who died on February 5, 2015, in Waunakee.
Pregnancy Helpline promotes diaper collection
MADISON — Through the effort of Pregnancy Helpline of Madison and the National Diaper Bank Network, the week of September 8 to 14 has been proclaimed Diaper Need Awareness Week in Wisconsin as a result of the great amount of needed support.
People are encouraged to aid this critical issue by donating funds or diapers during Diaper Need Awareness Week. Diapers can be dropped off at three Madison Shopko stores September 8 to 14. Diapers can also be brought to the Lil Badger Consignment Sale in Monona September 11 to 13.
