MAZOMANIE — The Hispanic ministry of Divine Mercy Parish in Sauk City will be hosting a Hispanic Retreat for Lent at St. Barnabas Church, 410 Cramer St. in Mazomanie, on Saturday, April 5, and Saturday, April 12, beginning at 9:30 a.m. and concluding with a Hispanic Mass at 6:30 p.m.
Planned for the retreat are talks, time to share ideas and ask questions, music, sharing of food, and more. Childcare, complete with child activities, will be provided.
MADISON — A four-week series entitled “Moving Through Grief” will be held at St. Dennis Parish, 505 Dempsey Rd., in the gathering area on Wednesdays, March 12, 19, 26, and April 2. A group reunion will be held on Wednesday, April 30.
Each session will he held 7 to 9 p.m. and will be facilitated by members of the St. Dennis Grief Ministry Team. The series will include team presentations, prayer, small group discussion, handouts, and refreshments.
JEFFERSON/OREGON — Several Life Teen ministry events are coming to parishes in the Diocese of Madison.
A Life Teen local training will be held at Holy Mother of Consolation, 651 N. Main St., Oregon, on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The training is for youth ministers to learn best practices in youth ministry, based on the Life Teen ministry model. The goal is to help parishes lead teens closer to Christ. The cost of the training is $30 per person, and includes breakfast and lunch. Registration is required. Each February, the Church celebrates two events of special significance to Little Sisters of the Poor.
On February 5, the Church celebrates the World Day of Consecrated Life, a day important to all men and women religious. On February 11, the World Day of the Sick is observed.
Each of these special days offers an opportunity for us to affirm our vocation as consecrated women devoted to the Church’s mission of compassion through the ministry of healthcare.
During January, most dioceses in the United States celebrate National Vocation Awareness Week.
This is a good time to think about vocations and who has one. Who do you think has a vocation? If you answered that everyone has a vocation, you get an A.
So often we hear people limiting the term “vocation” to the priesthood and religious life. I hear many people, especially parents with children in Catholic schools, complain that we just don’t have enough vocations, but in truth we each received a vocation when we were baptized.
I have a ritual I practice on New Year’s Eve or day, depending on what is going on in my life. I take some quiet time to review how God has worked in my life over the past year.
Last year I recalled a journal entry that summarized a talk I still remember. It was given during a day of prayer. The presenter, a wonderful Holy Cross priest, made a simple but profound statement. He said that Christian discipleship can be summed up by two words — “Come” and “Go.”
