The annual Mass to commemorate the death of Venerable Samuel Mazzuchelli, OP, will be held at St. Patrick Church, Benton, at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 26. Mazzuchelli Assembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus invite everyone to attend and join them for a social in the parish hall afterward.

Pontifical Mass for the Feast of Candlemas to be celebrated
MADISON — On Thursday, Feb. 2, at 7 p.m. His Excellency Most Reverend Robert C. Morlino will celebrate Candlemas, the Feast of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary (the Presentation of the Lord) with a Pontifical Mass at the Throne in the chapel of the Holy Name Heights, 702 S. High Point Rd., Madison.
The music will be Gregorian Chant and polyphonic motets.
There will be the traditional blessing of candles and a procession.
The rites are in the Church’s ancient, traditional form of the Roman Rite in Latin.
Blessed candles will be distributed.
Family is focus at Good Shepherd Festival
MADISON — From preparation to the actual event, the Good Shepherd Parish Family Festival engages family members of all ages.
Well known for the sale of pfeffernuesse cookies, the festival will be held Sunday, Nov. 13, at St. James Church located on St. James Ct. near Mills and Mound Sts.
The festival begins with a Children’s Mass at 8:30, followed by the opening of the trash and treasure sale in the school basement as well as the bakery, snack bar, silent auction and raffles, pfefferenuesse sale, and children’s games in the school gym. The chicken dinner starts at 11 a.m. and goes until 4:30 p.m.
Mass for deceased bishops and priests of Diocese of Madison
MADISON — Bishop Robert C. Morlino will celebrate a special Requiem Mass for deceased priests and bishops of the Diocese of Madison. November is a month when Catholics pray in a special way for the repose of the dead and, by God’s will, for the rapid entrance into heaven of the poor souls.
On Tuesday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m. in the chapel at Holy Name Heights, Bishop Morlino, with clerical and lay ministers, will celebrate a Pontifical Requiem Mass “at the Throne” in the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite.
Cathedral Parish hosts Healing Mass, prayer service
MADISON — The Cathedral Parish is hosting a Healing Mass and prayer service with Fr. Aniello Salicone, a Xavierian priest from Franklin, Wis. The Mass will take place on Monday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m. at St. Patrick Church, 404 E. Main St.
Born in Italy in 1940, Father Salicone has served as a missionary priest in Italy, London, West Africa, and many states in America. He took a fourth vow to serve the missions.

We need to spend more time with God

There were many good insights in the article by Bishop Robert Barron (on a Pew Study about why young people are leaving the active practice of Christianity) which we can easily recognize.
What is often left out for consideration in discussion of this issue is that in the modern faith formation process, at least in my limited experience of 50 years, there is a lack of engagement of many people, including myself, to a life devoted to dynamic personal devotional intercession and communal intercession happening outside the confines of a very structured and impersonal speedy approach by some to the celebration of the Mass and community involvement within the parish outside of Mass.
