Marie Loring, age 94, died on Friday, March 22, 2013. She was born June 12, 1918, at rural Platteville, the daughter of Matt and Josephine (Siepker) Loring, the oldest of their ten children.

MADISON — When the longtime church supply store and Christian retailer Madison Church Supply went out of business in 2011, a void was left in the local community.
Into that breach stepped Kevin Niles, the owner of By The Cross Church Supply and Catholic Gift and Bookstore in Stevens Point. Originally from Texas and a transplant to Wisconsin by virtue of his wife, with whom he has six children, Niles has owned and operated the store in Stevens Point for three years.
Wisconsin Catholic Conference comments on state budget
MADISON — As the public policy voice of Wisconsin’s Roman Catholic bishops, the Wisconsin Catholic Conference (WCC) supports and affirms many of the measures included in Governor Scott Walker’s 2013-15 state biennial budget proposal. However, the WCC has some concerns that may require further review and revision.
The WCC supports the promotion of innovative and quality education in the budget, including the expansion of parental choice programs and the creation of the Special Needs Scholarship Program. Both proposals are a step forward in empowering all parents with the ability to choose a school that best meets their child’s needs.
St. Paul’s University Catholic Center membership clarified
MADISON — Bishop Robert C. Morlino has issued a decree clarifying the status of the “community of faithful” constituting the “personal parish” at St. Paul’s University Catholic Center in Madison.
Bishop Morlino notes that in 1967, Bishop Cletus F. O’Donnell erected the personal parish of St. Paul, indicating who would be considered members of the parish and further stipulating that registration would be required for parish membership.

St. Maria Goretti Parish creates a vision for the future
MADISON — Parishioners often describe St. Maria Goretti Parish as a “very good parish.”
“It’s a very warm and welcoming parish. You get the sense that people care. There is excellent leadership from the clergy and staff,” said Bernard DuMond, who did an assessment of St. Maria Goretti Parish as a consultant with the Institute of School & Parish Development (ISPD).
St. Ambrose dinner gathers record numbers
A record 565 guests gathered at the Madison Marriott West in Middleton on December 15 for a benefit dinner supporting St. Ambrose Academy middle school and high school. Bishop Robert Morlino and dozens of priests and religious were joined by faculty, school families, benefactors, and supporters in a celebration of Catholic education in the Diocese of Madison.
Care ministry: A gift received and given

Plans underway to redevelop former Holy Redeemer school building
MADISON — Plans are being made for the redevelopment of the run-down Holy Redeemer School building located next to Holy Redeemer Church at 120 W. Johnson St. into student housing.
According to Msgr. Kevin Holmes, pastor of the Cathedral Parish of St. Raphael, the repurposed building would be designed especially to serve students involved at St. Paul’s University Catholic Center.
