As part of its mission to support the Bishop and priests of the diocese, the Madison Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (MDCCW) has sponsored and hosted the ordination reception at St. Maria Goretti Church for over ten years. This year’s event was for the ordination of Fr. Matthew Pearson.

Catholic women meet for diocesan convention at the Mound
SINSINAWA — The 64th annual convention of the Madison Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (MDCCW) started the morning of June 13 with “Sister Mary Agnes” running into the Heritage Center at the Mound here, ringing a bell as four young teen girls trailed behind her.
“Time for class, everyone. Let’s move along! Don’t dawdle! We have a busy day!”
Sinsinawa Mound site of women’s convention
SINSINAWA — All women of the Diocese of Madison are invited to attend the 64th annual convention of the Madison Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (MDCCW) at the historic Sinsinawa Mound on Wednesday, June 13.
Grant Vicariate CCW President Janet Block, St. Clement Parish, Lancaster, chairs the convention and is working with fellow parishioner Bernadette Schaefer, who will assume the MDCCW presidency at the convention.
Catholic women contribute to The Beacon
MIDDLETON — At its quarterly board meeting at St. Bernard Church here this month, the Madison Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (MDCCW) honored the late Fr. Lorin “Larry” Bowens, who had served as its priest co-moderator with Msgr. Duane Moellenberndt, Sun Prairie, for over 20 years until his death on December 30, 2015.
Father Larry, as he was known, died unexpectedly after a short illness at the age of 68, while serving as pastor of Holy Family Parish, La Valle; St. Boniface, Lime Ridge; and St. Patrick, Loreto.
Diocesan women challenged to lead
FORT ATKINSON — In an afternoon “shareshop” on leadership at the Madison Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (MDCCW) convention held recently at St. Joseph Parish Hall here, members of MDCCW board shared their enthusiasm for the work of CCWs at the parish and vicariate levels.

Diocesan women meet; discuss leadership, service
FORT ATKINSON — With the theme of “Rise, Let Us Be on Our Way,” Co-Presidents Ellen Martin, Westfield, and Sue Koch, Berlin, opened the 63rd annual convention of the Madison Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (MDCCW) at St. Joseph Parish Hall here on June 14.
Interrupting their welcome, President-Elect Bernadette Shaefer, Lancaster, came running in with other MDCCW leaders and led a cheer which she wrote for the convention: “Here’s to the women we hold dear. We all come together year after year. Sharing ideas too many to mention. We learn and laugh at our annual convention . . .”
The fun mixed with the seriousness continued throughout the day.
In his opening comments, Msgr. Duane Moellenberndt, pastor of Sacred Hearts Parish, Sun Prairie, and MDCCW spiritual advisor, gave thanks for the women of the council who provide services to the diocese.
“One of the tasks of this council is to help us support one another on our journey of faith. So, first of all, we are helping each other and then, second, we are working through the Catholic Church to share the Good News of the Gospel message of Jesus with others of our own faith and far beyond the borders of Catholicism . . . how blessed we are to be able to share in the ministry of the Lord which He has entrusted us.”
Priest given ‘another chance’ to complete mission in life
FORT ATKINSON — Fr. John Tourangeau, O. Praem, began his keynote speech to the women at the Madison Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (MDCCW) convention held at St. Joseph Parish in Fort Atkinson, June 14, with a request to join him in reciting The Hail Mary.
“We humbly ask blessings from the Blessed Virgin Mary on our gathering,” prayed the Norbertine priest who spoke on “Heaven: Is it for Real?” He is the co-author with Travis Vanden Heuvel of To Heaven and Back: The Journey of a Roman Catholic Priest.

FORT ATKINSON — Women of the diocese are invited to attend the 63rd annual convention of the Madison Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (MDCCW) to be held Wednesday, June 14, at St. Joseph Parish Hall and Church, 1660 Endl Blvd., here.
The Jefferson and Rock-Green Vicariates are hosting the one-day gathering, which begins with registration and continental breakfast at 8 a.m. and concludes at 3:30 p.m. The day includes a keynote speaker, Mass, catered lunch, “shareshop,” patriotic Rosary, and silent auction.
