Dear Readers, in case some of you are fact-checking, I will confess that for the first time ever I’ve succumbed to the use of hyperbole here and there in this column, but only because I wanted to make sure my message was clear — we must all avoid the perils of pursuing perfectionism lest we trade Spirit for spirit.

The good old days
In every age throughout history, human life has always been and will always be a mixture of pain and joy, suffering and celebration, bad times and good times.
Sundowning
Dear Readers. Perhaps you’ve heard of “sundowning,” a condition also known as Sundowner’s Syndrome or Late Day Confusion. I firmly believe sundowning is not a physical nor mental nor emotional manifestation; I think it’s a spiritual one.

Let’s celebrate the Summer Olympics!
The Games of the XXXIII Olympiad will be held in Paris this summer from late July until mid-August, but the tenth annual Linden Lodge Driveway Olympics will be held one afternoon only, at our cabin up north on Lake Mildred. I wish you could have been with me at my son’s wedding last week. The beautiful Nuptial Mass was celebrated at Holy Mother of Consolation Church in Oregon with a lovely reception afterwards down the road at a banquet hall overlooking the valley.
Since you weren’t able to be there, I thought I might at least share with you the toast I gave at the dinner; I’m fairly sure you can relate to what I was trying to say:
Reflecting on resolving
If 640 million of us succeeded in keeping resolutions designed to improve the content of our character and not just the beauty of our bodies, we just might make the world a better place in which to live.
