MADISON — Abraham Lincoln is more a legend than a real person to many people. His famous speeches, his efforts to hold the Union together, and his untimely death overshadow the man who honed his skills as a circuit-riding attorney in Illinois.
At the next meeting of the St. Thomas More Society in the Diocese of Madison, attorney John Skilton will present highlights from “Abraham Lincoln: A Lawyer for the Ages.”
Skilton is an author, lecturer, and leader in the legal community. He has practiced law for 43 years and has given back to the community by serving on the Board of Governors of the American Bar Association as well as serving as president of the State Bar of Wisconsin.

Students in Jefferson learn about icons
JEFFERSON — Seventh and eighth graders at St. John the Baptist (SJB) School in Jefferson were recently able to catch a glimpse of heaven thanks to the work of Madison-based iconographer, Drazen Dupor.
Students had been studying religious icons in religion classes. In collaboration with art teacher Sally Koehler and with the support of the SJB Home and School Association, students began their first steps on the journey to understanding and appreciating this cherished liturgical art form.

St. John’s Piecemakers quilt show to be held in Waunakee
WAUNAKEE — St. John’s Piecemakers Quilt Club of Waunakee will host their 13th annual Quilting Through the Ages quilt show on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 25 and 26, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at St. John School gym, 114 E. Third St.
More than 150 quilts will be displayed along with quilts that will be donated to local charities. A silent auction and quilt sale benefiting the Waunakee Food Pantry will be held. Luncheon items will be served by the Ashton Go-Getters 4-H Club.
Family Adoration offered in Jefferson parish
JEFFERSON — St. John the Baptist Parish in Jefferson has begun offering family Adoration and 12-hour Eucharistic Adoration vigils on the first Friday of each month. These devotions are offered year-round and are a response to the encouragement of Pope Francis for all Catholics to grow in devotion to Jesus, truly present in the Eucharist.

Youth gets rank of Eagle Scout
MUSCODA — Nickolas Wiederholt, a senior from Riverdale High School, was recognized at a Court of Honor ceremony at St. John the Baptist school gym in Muscoda on Sunday, July 28.
This is the highest advancement award the Boy Scouts of America offers to scouts, and only approximately four percent of all Boy Scouts attain the rank of Eagle.
