JEFFERSON — St. John the Baptist Parish in Jefferson has begun offering family Adoration and 12-hour Eucharistic Adoration vigils on the first Friday of each month. These devotions are offered year-round and are a response to the encouragement of Pope Francis for all Catholics to grow in devotion to Jesus, truly present in the Eucharist.

Jefferson Vicariate
JEFFERSON — St. Lawrence Parish, W4875 Hwy. 18, will host the Jefferson Vicariate meeting on Thursday, Oct. 17.
Registration starts at 4:45 p.m., with the Rosary at 5:10 p.m. and Mass at 5:30 p.m. Msgr. Duane Moellenberndt of Sun Prairie, Fr. Tom Coyle of Jefferson, and attending priests will concelebrate the Mass.
Dinner is at 6:30 p.m. Madison Diocesan Council of Catholic Women President Coreen Marklein will speak followed by the program with Father Coyle focusing on the theme, “Uniting Women of Faith.”

Local principal receives award from NCEA

JEFFERSON — St. John the Baptist School in presented their annual Christmas program with the theme: “Touch of an Angel” on Thursday evening, Dec. 22, in St. John the Baptist Church.
Students from pre-K through eighth grade, under the direction of music teacher and band director, Andrea Haffelder, presented the Nativity in story and song with angels as the main focus. Prior to the main program, the junior and senior bands performed a variety of Christmas music for the enjoyment of the crowded church, which was filled with family and friends.
The highlight of the evening took place at the conclusion of the program with the presentation of the NCEA (National Catholic Educators Association) Distinguished Principal Award to Mary Kilar, principal of St. John the Baptist School for the last eight years. Michael Lancaster, superintendent of Catholic schools for the Diocese of Madison, presented the good news to a surprised Kilar and overjoyed parish school community. Lancaster had nominated her for this honor at the start of the current school year with Kilar being the only principal being chosen from the Madison Diocesan schools.

JEFFERSON — El pasado Sábado 11 de Junio, con motivo del retiro de la Hna. Ana Luisa Céspedes, se llevo a cabo una fiesta sorpresa para despedirla y agradecerle por todo su trabajo y dedicación a nuestras comunidades. Esta celebración se hizo en el Riverside Park de Watertown. La fiesta fue organizada entre las comunidades de Jefferson, Marshall y Watertown, comunidades que la Hna. Ana Luisa atendía desde hace 16 años.
Los invitados comenzaron a llegar desde las 12:00 p.m. al salón. A la hermana se le cito a la 1:30 p.m. en el parque para una “junta” con el comité guadalupano de la Iglesia de Watertown.
Cerca de la hora, haciendo el menor ruido posible, comenzamos a prepararnos para la llegada de la Hermana. En cuanto entro todos de pie y con gran alegría gritamos a una sola voz “Sorpresa” y le dimos un fuerte aplauso. La Hermana estaba muy contenta y asombrada, comento que ya sospechaba algo pero nunca imagino todo lo que se le tenía preparado.

Fr. Thomas Marr sentenced, must pay restitution
JEFFERSON — On February 22, Jefferson County Circuit Judge Jacqueline Erwin sentenced Fr. Thomas Marr, 66, former pastor of St. Bernard Parish in Watertown, to nine months in a county jail as a condition of a seven-year probationary period. The sentencing followed a no-contest plea and guilty verdict.
After three months in jail, Father Marr can apply for an alternative, such as electronic monitoring. Father Marr was also asked to pay restitution of $134,318 to 17 households.
Prayers sought for family of Mary Kilar
MADISON — The Diocese of Madison Office of Catholic Schools and St. John the Baptist Parish and School in Jefferson ask for prayers for the family of school principal Mary Kilar after a car accident on Thursday, Sept. 2, injured her husband and children and took the life of her six-year-old son, Treyton.
Kilar has been principal at St. John the Baptist School, Jefferson, since 2004. She was not in the vehicle at the time of the incident.
