World-famous statue of Mary to visit Monroe in October
MONROE — The World Apostolate of Fatima will bring its United Nations Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Our Lady of Fatima to St. Victor Church, 1760 14th St., Monroe, on Saturday, Oct. 5, to Monday, Oct. 7.
This statue of Mary is based in Rhode Island and is owned by the Fatima Sanctuary in Portugal. One of the four International Pilgrim Virgin statues, it was blessed by Pope Pius XII, and shortly thereafter it began being taken on a continuous worldwide pilgrimage on May 13, 1947, the 30th anniversary of the first apparition of Mary at Fatima.
Mary, the mother of Jesus, appeared several times to three shepherd children in Fatima, Portugal, in 1917. The Catholic Church venerates Mary’s appearances there by giving her the title of “Our Lady of Fatima.”

How is it that we can spend money, large parts of our days on sports events, TV, and electronic devices, but only 50 or fewer individuals could find an hour or less to honor Our Lady on the 100th anniversary of her first apparition at Fatima?
Answering Our Lady of Fatima’s call
PINE BLUFF — This year we are observing the 100th anniversary of the apparitions of Our Lady at Fatima, Portugal, from May to October 1917.
Central to the messages given by the Blessed Virgin Mary during those apparitions, and then for years afterward to one of the seers at Fatima, Lucia, was the urgent need of the faithful to do penance and make reparation for sins committed by humanity against Mary’s Immaculate Heart.
Promises of Mary
The Mother of God said that if her requests were heeded, many disasters could be avoided.
History lessons of Our Lady of Fatima
This past week, we celebrated the 100th anniversary of the first apparition of Our Lady to a group of shepherd children near the Portuguese town of Fatima. The series of Fatima appearances — lasting from May until October of 1917 — is one of the most extraordinary in the history of the Church.
It has also beguiled political and cultural commentators outside the ambit of the Church, and it is this wider implication that I would like to explore.
