Footville and Evansville parishes promote Year of Mercy
FOOTVILLE — St. Augustine Parish in Footville and St. Paul Parish in Evansville joined efforts to promote Pope Francis’ “Year of Mercy.”
Throughout the year, both parishes have undertaken various charitable works and promoted evangelization, educational, and spiritual outreaches to inspire everyone to live their faith and to act on the Corporal Works of Mercy.
Evansville scout wins conservation award
MADISON — Culminating years of conservation work, Eagle Scout Isaiah Janisch, a member of Boy Scout Troop 514 in Evansville, was awarded the William T. Hornaday Silver Medal for Distinguished Service to Natural Resource Conservation, Boy Scouting’s highest award for conservation.
In a ceremony on May 14 at the UW Arboretum Visitor Center, Janisch was recognized and honored for his multi-year volunteer and conservation activities.
Projects and achievements
To earn the Hornaday Silver Medal, Janisch earned 14 conservation-related merit badges and organized and led five service projects, each in a different area of conservation, over a three-year period.
Service of Remembrance in Evansville
EVANSVILLE — All are invited to attend a Service of Remembrance for people of all faiths to remember, honor, and celebrate their loved ones who have passed away and to find comfort for their grief during this Christmas season.
The service will be held on Sunday, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church, 39 Garfield Ave., Evansville.
Sessions help seniors gain confidence and reduce falls
JANESVILLE — One in every three adults over age 65 falls every year; however, falling is not normal for older adults, and older adults can learn how to take steps to prevent falls.
Stepping On, a workshop offered in Rock County, teaches older adults to do just that. Research shows that adults who take the workshop gain confidence, reduce falls by over 30 percent, and have fewer hospitalizations and emergency department visits.
Service of Remembrance to be held in Evansville
EVANSVILLE — St. Paul Parish in Evansville will hold an ecumenical Service of Remembrance on Sunday, Dec. 15, at 7 p.m. at St. Paul Church on the corner of First St. and Garfield Ave.
The service is intended for people of all faiths who wish to remember, honor, and celebrate their loved ones who have passed away. It will include readings, music, prayer, quiet reflection, and a candlelight ceremony to recall each person loved and honored this season. The service will be led by Rev. Luke Bocher, pastor of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Evansville.
