Some years ago, my friend Msgr. Francis Mannion wrote an article concerning the three essential features of the Eucharistic liturgy — namely, the priest, the rite, and the people.
When these elements are in proper balance, rightly ordered liturgy obtains.
Further, from these categories, he argued, we can discern the three typical distortions of the liturgy: clericalism (too much of the priest), ritualism (a fussy hyper-focus on the rite), and congregationalism (a disproportionate emphasis on the people).
Evangelization in Catholic schools
One of the best gifts I have received in my life was an education in Catholic schools.
I was fortunate to attend Blessed Sacrament Elementary School and Aquinas High School, both in La Crosse, Wis.
Those 12 years of Catholic education made a great impact on my life. I didn’t realize it at the time, but I was being evangelized.
Latinos celebrate Christ the King with Bishop Hying
On Sunday, Nov. 24, the Latino community of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in Madison and from nearby parishes came together to celebrate the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. Most Reverend Donald Hying, bishop of Madison, celebrated their 6:30 p.m. Spanish Mass with Fr. Bart Timmerman, pastor of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish.

Diocesan Pastoral Council holds first meeting with Bishop Hying
The Diocesan Pastoral Council (DPC) held its first meeting with Bishop Donald J. Hying on October 12 at Holy Name Heights. The meeting was preceded by a Mass celebrated by Bishop Hying, at which he thanked members for their involvement in the DPC.
Reflections on ‘Dominus Iesus’
The primary aim of the Amazon Synod that is happening right now in Rome is, in the words of Pope Francis, to “identify new ways for the evangelization of that portion of the people of God, and especially the indigenous peoples.”1
This question of how to evangelize is very important, not only for the Amazon Region, but for the whole Church. How do we bring Jesus Christ to those who have never heard of him? And more specifically, how are we called to treat other cultures and other religions with the respect they deserve yet without compromising the saving truth of the Gospel?

Eucharistic ministers evangelize by bringing Communion to nursing homes
To the editor:
Eucharistic ministers can help to save souls by bringing Communion to nursing homes. Most Catholics think that evangelization means “bringing people to Jesus,” but in a real sense, it includes “bringing the body of Jesus to people.”
This form of evangelization is becoming more important because we have an aging population, with nursing homes becoming a growing part of many communities.
