Bishop blesses care center expansion
MADISON — Bishop Robert C. Morlino of Madison was on hand as SSM Health St. Mary’s Care Center in Madison celebrated its expanded care opportunities for its long-term residents and the greater community.
The bishop told staff members at an April 7 dedication and blessing ceremony that he is “pleased with all the healing and all of the love that are communicated in such a way that patients are healed outwardly and inwardly by the wonderful care that they receive” at the care center.
From closed-in darkness into the open light

As a Catholic child, going to Confession was a scary and anxious time for me. It involved dark small spaces, dirty drapes, and talking to a stranger about things I did wrong — not a good experience!
As I grew up, going to Confession still was anxiety-provoking. I came to realize I do not like small spaces with closed doors, or talking personally with a stranger. I have a hard enough time going into doctors’ offices. Avoidance is certain.
Sharing our blessings at Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is a day when we gather with family and friends to share a meal, reconnect as family, and thank God for our cornucopias of blessings.
The roots of Thanksgiving Day began with the pilgrims. Despite a long, hard winter during which half of them died from scurvy and exposure to the elements, the pilgrims were so thankful some of them survived that they invited their Indian friends to share a three day feast of thanksgiving.
H.U. Westermayer wrote that the pilgrims made seven times more graves than huts during that first hard year, yet they set aside a day to thank God through prayer and through sharing their blessings with Indian friends.
Blessing animals on the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi
PRINCETON — St. John the Baptist School in Princeton recently celebrated St. Francis of Assisi — whose feast day was on October 4 — with a special pet blessing. St. Francis of Assisi is the patron saint of animals.
This event has become a tradition the students and community look forward to each year.
Students and community members brought their pets to the school to receive a blessing from Pastor and Principal Fr. Dale Grubba.

BARABOO — St. Clare of Assisi, the patron saint after whom St. Clare Hospital in Baraboo was named, has been described in history as “full of light” or “radiant.”
Her guiding light continues to be a beacon that illuminates the exceptional health care ministry practiced throughout the community as part of the SSM Health Care mission at the St. Clare Hospital campus in Baraboo and its clinic facilities in the Wisconsin Dells/Lake Delton area.
