Sister Mary James (Alice Margaret Mary) Geenen entered Eternal Life February 20, 2012, the third child of Henry R. Geenen and Gladys Catherine (McCormick) Geenen. She was born March 31, 1919 in Freedom. She attended Saint Nicholas Elementary School. After graduating from high school she attended Saint Norbert College and Silver Lake College where she earned a BA Degree in Elementary Education with majors in Philosophy and English. She attended the University of Dayton earning a MS Degree in Elementary Education.

Brother Dutton School closes
BELOIT — Saturday, June 4, 2011 was declared “Brother Dutton School Day throughout the State of Wisconsin.” The proclamation was signed by Governor Scott Walker and also by Secretary of State Douglas LaFollette.
St. Jude Marian Guild celebrates 100 years
BELOIT — In 1911, when St. Jude Parish was only three years old, the well-respected founding pastor, Fr. Joseph Hanz, organized the Senior Ladies Guild, one of three such organizations he formed within the parish.
One hundred years later, its name now changed to the Marian Guild Council of Catholic Women, the group continues to be a constant force offering dedicated service to the parish. It is one of the oldest continuously serving women’s groups in the diocese.
Beloit Brother Dutton School to close in June
The 85-year-old Brother Dutton Grade School will close in June, 2011, at the end of this school year.
OLA Child Care Center receives grant

Arlene McMorran celebrates 25 years as principal
Among accolades honoring Arlene McMorran for serving 25 years as Our Lady of the Assumption (OLA) School principal is the Outstanding Catholic Educator Award in the Diocese of Madison. The honorary plaque was recently presented to McMorran by Madison Diocesan Superintendent of Schools Michael Lancaster.
Stations of Cross windows installed at Beloit Church
BELOIT — Two traditions essential to Catholic worship were brought together at Our Lady of the Assumption (OLA) Church during the recent parish feast day, August 15, when Pastor Fr. Gary Krahenbuhl blessed newly installed Stations of the Cross.
The new stations are made of etched glass and are placed in the 14 windows of the church that surround the pews and altar. They were installed from the inside of the church by placing an etched glass pane onto the original windowpane.
John Kortendick, father of diocesan priest, dies
John Kortendick, father of Fr. Steven J. Kortendick, pastor of St. Jude and St. Thomas the Apostle Parishes in Beloit, died on July 6, 2009.
