Durward’s Glen to hold 100th Corpus Christi celebration
BARABOO — The 100th annual Corpus Christi Mass and procession at Durward’s Glen will take place on Sunday, June 2, at 12 noon.
The Feast of Corpus Christi dates back to AD 1230. This feast is especially meaningful because it is one time when Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament is exposed not just to faithful Catholics but to everyone present.
The Mass will be celebrated at the outdoor Holy Family altar by Fr. Pedro Escribano from the Society of Jesus Christ the Priest. This is the 100th year that Corpus Christi has been celebrated at Durward’s Glen.

BARABOO — Scott Jablonski was ordained to the transitional diaconate by Bishop Robert C. Morlino during the 10:30 a.m. Mass at St. Joseph Church in Baraboo on Sunday, April 14. He is expected to be ordained to the priesthood in the Diocese of Madison next year.
‘Witness’ to the faith
In his homily at the Mass, Bishop Morlino spoke about the “beauty” of the Office of Deacon, and how a deacon is called to “testify” and proclaim the Gospel at the liturgy and in their daily life.
“Our new Deacon Scott is a very great witness — he loves to testify, and he’s one of the most pleasant testifiers I’ve ever met,” said Bishop Morlino. “The Lord has given him such marvelous gifts, that he’s now put at the Lord’s disposal.”
You can read more on the bishop’s message in his column here.
Journey to ordination
Deacon Jablonski, originally from Appleton, returned to Catholicism after years searching for answers and learning about different religions. He received first Communion as a youth, but says his family members did not practice the faith. He was recently interviewed by EWTN for The Journey Home series telling the story of his personal journey getting to know Christ more fully.
Joyful news of a new deacon: Scott Jablonski
This column is the bishop’s communication with the faithful of the Diocese of Madison. Any wider circulation reaches beyond the intention of the bishop. |
Dear Friends,
This last weekend in Baraboo I ordained Scott Jablonski to the diaconate and I’m so very grateful to Scott and to Fr. Jay Poster and the faithful in Baraboo for their tremendous welcome and hard work in preparing for the Mass. Here I’d like to recount a few things I shared with our new deacon and the people there, but would address here to all the faithful:
Sons of the bishop
The deacons and the priests of the diocese, in a special way, are all sons of the bishop. And although the ages don’t quite work out for all of the priests and deacons, it works fine with Deacon Scott.
And this is why it’s such a blessing to be a bishop, even with everything else that comes along with the office; it’s so wonderful because the bishop gets to call the deacon or the priest, “my son.”
Scott Jablonski: On a journey of faith
BARABOO — Scott Jablonski will be ordained to the Order of Deacons during a Mass celebrated on Sunday, April 14, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Church in Baraboo.
He will be ordained as a transitional deacon for the Diocese of Madison, meaning that he is expected to be ordained to the priesthood next year.
Catholic education provided for generations
“Don’t you want to be a teacher?” asked my friend Joan just weeks before we were to graduate from Madonna High School in Aurora, Ill.
This was the all-girls’ class of 1945, where we were taught by Franciscans Sisters. We had both been accepted by St. Ben’s in Minnesota, where we would be taught by Benedictines.
I was confused. “What do you mean, a teacher? I don’t want to be a nun, you know.”
Bringing children in Baraboo and Cuba together
“Only the human person, created in the image and likeness of God, is capable of raising a hymn of praise and thanksgiving to the Creator. The earth, with all its creatures, and the entire universe call on man to be their voice.”
Pope John Paul II — Homily, San Antonio, Texas 1987
BARABOO — This year, the fourth and fifth grade students at St. Joseph School in Baraboo became that voice talked about by Pope John Paul II and so much more — through their participation in Children Are The Hope (CATH), a project that aims to connect Wisconsin children to Cuban children through environmental and cultural education.
Children Are The Hope is an organization based in Wisconsin, partnering with the Empresa Nacional para la Proteccion de la Flora y Fauna and University of Havana in Cuba, along with nearly 20 primary and elementary schools from the north-central region of Cuba and the southern half of Wisconsin.
