I would like to congratulate Rev. Mr. Vince Brewer, Rev. Mr. Garrett Kau, and Rev. Mr. Steve Petrica on their upcoming ordination to the Priesthood of Jesus Christ. What an event of great joy for the diocese in this Year of Faith to have three men ordained for the ministry of the word and sacraments.

News of great joy: three more seminarians
We begin this New Year with news of great joy: we have three new seminarians starting school this January.
Two of these men are college sophomores and one is going into pre-theology. With the addition of these three men we now have a total of 35 men in our seminary program. This is truly a cause for great rejoicing and thanksgiving to God for his continued favors to us.
Ten new seminarians point to Church’s hopeful future
As the fall season rolls in and many students are headed back to school, the seminarians for the diocese are all heading back to school to continue with their seminary formation after a much deserved summer break.
Starting this fall, we will have seminarians in seminaries in Detroit, Mich.; Denver, Colo.; Washington, D.C.; Winona and St. Paul, Minn.; Seward,
Neb.; South Orange, N.J.; and Rome, Italy. Their years of seminary formation range from freshmen in college to the final year of theology.
The Lord continues to call: ‘You shall be My witnesses’
Eritis mihi testes — You shall be My witnesses (Acts 1:8). These words addressed by our Lord Jesus Christ to His disciples on the day of His Ascension sets the stage for the apostolic mission of the Church.
This “witnessing” was fully commissioned on the day of Pentecost when the promised gift of the Holy Spirit came upon the apostles. This power given by the Lord to the apostles and confirmed by the presence of the Holy
Spirit in the foundation upon which the Catholic Church had thrived over the ages.
Invitation to witness
In every age and time, the Lord continues to invite people to be witnesses of His love in our world. This invitation to “witness” takes various shapes and forms.
Future of the priesthood in the diocese
This past week, the Diocese of Madison seminarians gathered at the Bishop O’Connor Catholic Pastoral Center for the annual reunion with the bishop.
Local men sponsor six seminarians at World Youth Day
The ways in which we act out our Christian charity in the Church, for the love of God and neighbor, is evident in a number of ways throughout a given year.
Often it is through volunteering at our parishes or parish-related projects — things we feel attached to and with which we want to assist in a specific way. Other times it is through monetary donations to similar local campaigns, projects, or funds, benefiting things that we know, in faith, we need to support. Always, it includes our prayers!
