2023 priest appointments
Msgr. James Bartylla, Vicar General, announces the following priest appointments made by Most Reverend Donald J. Hying, Bishop of Madison, effective Saturday, July 1, 2023, and announced Saturday and Sunday, March 4th and 5th:
Rescript granting a dispensation from the law of abstinence on the Memorial of St. Patrick
Seeing that the prescripts of canons 1251 and 1253 of the Code of Canon Law, in keeping with the immemorial practice of the Church, require the faithful who have completed their fourteenth year to abstain from eating meat on every Friday of the year in the manner determined more precisely by the conference of bishops;
Serving the poor is serving the Lord
Our Catholic Social Teaching principle “Option for the Poor and Vulnerable” references this Gospel passage. The principle states, “A basic moral test is how our most vulnerable members are faring. In a society marred by deepening divisions between rich and poor, our tradition recalls the story of the Last Judgment (Mt 25:31-46) and instructs us to put the needs of the poor and vulnerable first.”
