MADISON — The Diocese of Madison Catholic Committee on Scouting (DMCCS) is now in the process of selecting Scouts to represent the diocese on the 2015 St. George Trek.
DMCCS has sent five Scouts on the St. George Trek annually since 2009 and is looking for two candidates to be a part of the Trek, which will take place between July 8 and 23 of 2015.
The St. George Trek is a 10-day trek through the New Mexico Rocky Mountains based at Philmont Scout Ranch. The Trek is a physical and spiritual experience for Catholic Boy Scouts and Venture Scouts who will be 15 years old before July 1, 2015, and in high school in the fall of 2015.During the Trek, each Scout Crew is led by a priest and seminarian and will include Philmont Trek activities, as well as spiritual activities.
Two Scouts will be selected to participate through an application and interview process this spring. Scouts must be practicing Catholics and are selected based on their Scouting experience and involvement in parish activities.
Once Scouts are selected, over the next several months they will be part of a preparation process for the Trek, both spiritually and physically.
Any interested Scouts seeking information and/or applications should contact Colleen Szerlong at IrishCatholic@charter.net or by calling 608-868-6386.
