Sr. Virginia Pfaller, who lived her religious vocation as an educator, died at Sacred Heart in Milwaukee, Wisc., on April 27, 2022. Sister was 96 years old.
Sister Virginia was born on May 19, 1925, in Milwaukee. She was received into the School Sisters of St. Francis on June 13, 1946; made her first profession of vows in 1948; and final (perpetual) vows in 1954.
Sister Virginia is survived by many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand nephews; and by the School Sisters of St. Francis community with whom she shared her life for 76 years.
Beginning in 1948, Sister ministered in Wisconsin, Illinois, and Indiana for more than seven decades.
In the Diocese of Madison, Sister served as principal at Ss. Anthony & Philip School in Highland (1964-1968); and taught at Immaculate Heart of Mary School in Monona (1968-1970), St. Clement School in Lancaster (1970-1971), and St. Patrick School in Janesville (1971-1974). She also ministered as religious education coordinator at St. Francis Xavier Parish in Lake Mills (1974-1981).
In her retirement, Sister served in the ministry of prayer and presence in Wautoma, Wisconsin (2003-2015) and at Sacred Heart in Milwaukee from 2015 until the time of her death.
A funeral Liturgy was held on May 5, 2022, at St. Joseph Chapel in Milwaukee, followed by a private burial service at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Milwaukee.
