GREENFIELD — School Sister of St. Francis Virginia (Mary Ronald) Brunner, who lived her religious vocation in education and pastoral ministry, died June 25, 2015, at Our Lady of the Angels Convent. A wake and funeral liturgy were held June 30, 2015, at St. Joseph Convent, Milwaukee. Interment was at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Milwaukee.
She was received into the School Sisters of St. Francis June 13, 1942; made her first profession of vows June 21, 1944; and final (perpetual) vows June 21, 1950. In the Diocese of Madison, she served in religious education at the Religious Education Center in Sun Prairie (1970-1971); as associate director of the Religious Education Office in Madison (1971-1976); as pastoral associate at St. Charles Parish in Cassville (1976-1978); as Director of Religious Education at St. Barnabas/St. John Parish in Mazomanie (1978-1986); as parish director of adult religious education (1986-2005) and as pastoral associate (1989-2005) at St. Bernard Parish in Watertown; and as a volunteer in Madison (2005-2007) and in Watertown (2007-2008).
The daughter of Priscilla and John Brunner, she was born May 2, 1925, in Cross Plains. Sister Virginia is survived by her brother, Norbert (Mary Ann) of Waunakee; her sister Sister Mary Therese Brunner of Milwaukee; many nieces and nephews; cousins; friends; and the School Sisters of St. Francis Community, with whom she shared her life for 73 years.
