SINSINAWA, Wis. — Sr. Vanna Rauth, OP, died July 5, 2019, at St. Dominic Villa, Hazel Green, Wis. The funeral Mass was held at the Dominican motherhouse, Sinsinawa, July 12, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sister Vanna made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican August 5, 1943, and her perpetual profession August 5, 1946. She taught music for 36 years and served as a hospital chaplain for 7 years, in liturgy for four years and as a seamstress for 14 years. Sister Vanna served in Wisconsin, Nebraska, Illinois, New Jersey, Iowa, California, South Dakota, Connecticut, Indiana, Ohio, New York, and Florida.
In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Vanna taught music at St. Raphael, Madison, 1943-1947, and St. Joseph, Baraboo, 1959-1961. She served as seamstress at the motherhouse, Sinsinawa, 1989-1994, and St. Dominic Villa, Hazel Green, 2000-2006.
Sister Vanna was born January 30, 1923, in Wabash, Neb., the daughter of Aaron and Anna (Stander) Rauth. Her parents; a sister, Mary Rauth; and three brothers, Thomas Rauth, Paul Rauth, and Vincent Rauth, preceded her in death. She is survived by four brothers, Joseph Rauth, Herman Rauth, the Reverend Philip Rauth, and John Rauth; nieces; nephews; and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared 75 years of Religious life.
