SINSINAWA — Sr. Tarcissia Buchele, OP, died Sept. 28, 2016, at St. Dominic Villa. The funeral Mass was held in the Gathering Place chapel at Sinsinawa Monday, Oct. 3, 2016, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sr. Tarcissia made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican Aug. 5, 1937, and her final profession Aug. 5, 1940. She taught for 62 years, 48 as an elementary teacher and 14 as a reading specialist. Sr. Tarcissia delighted children with the Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls she created. She served in Wisconsin, South Dakota, Illinois and Minnesota.
In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Tarcissia created Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls and other sewn crafts while living at the Motherhouse, Sinsinawa, 1999-2003 and 2006-2013.
Sr. Tarcissia was born Jan. 9, 1919, in Peoria, Ill., the daughter of Arthur and Grace (Buchele) Buchele. Her parents; four sisters, Ruth Buchele, Betty Snell, Martha Malson, and Sister Camille Buchele, OP; and three brothers, Robert Buchele, Charles Buchele, and Jack Buchele, preceded her in death. She is survived by nieces, nephews, and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared life for 79 years.
