SINSINAWA — Sr. Sabina Ryan, OP, died April 8, 2016, at St. Dominic Villa. The funeral Mass was held in Queen of the Rosary Chapel at Sinsinawa April 15, 2016, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sr. Sabina made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican Aug. 5, 1953, and her final profession Aug. 5, 1956. She dedicated her life to education, teaching elementary and junior high for over 41 years and serving as principal for three years. She served in outreach for over a year and volunteered at St. Dominic Villa for 15 years. Sister Sabina ministered in Alabama, Illinois, Colorado, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Iowa, New York, Florida, and Wisconsin.
In the Diocese of Madison, Sr. Sabina served as a volunteer at St. Dominic Villa, Sinsinawa, 2000-2015.
Sr. Sabina was born Aug. 29, 1926, in Omaha, Neb., the daughter of George and Nora (Cox) Ryan. Her parents; four sisters, Anne Ryan, Susan Rochford, Nora Moore, and Sr. Marie Colette Ryan, OP; two brothers, Francis Ryan and Thomas Ryan, preceded her in death. She is survived by four sisters, Sister Nora Ryan, OP, Imelda McMillin, Mary Rehan, and Virginia Garner; three brothers, John Ryan, Fr. James Ryan, SJ, and George Ryan; nieces; nephews; and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared life for 62 years.
