SINSINAWA, Wis. — Sr. Prudence Ludwig, OP, died Aug. 16, 2018, on her 96th birthday at St. Dominic Villa. The funeral Mass was held at the Dominican motherhouse, Sinsinawa, Aug. 21, 2018, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sister Prudence made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican Aug. 5, 1945, and her final profession Aug. 5, 1948. She taught for 33 years and served as principal for three years, nurse aid for one year, religious education coordinator for three years, tutor and alumni coordinator for one year, and secretary for 22 years. Sister Prudence served in Illinois, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Nebraska, California, and Colorado.
In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Prudence served the Sinsinawa Dominican Congregation as secretary for the Southwestern Province, 1985-1991, and for the Liturgy Office, 1997-2008.
Sister Prudence was born Aug. 16, 1922, in Livingston, Mont., the daughter of Aloysius and Florence (Hartman) Ludwig. Her parents and a sister, Rita Ludwig, preceded her in death. She is survived by a sister, Barbara Corboy; nieces; nephews; and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared 73 years of religious life.
