SINSINAWA — Sister Philip Mary Reilly, OP, died Sept. 28, 2021, at St. Dominic Villa, Hazel Green, Wis. The funeral Mass was held at the Dominican motherhouse, Sinsinawa, Oct. 5, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sister Philip Mary made her first profession as a Dominican Sister of Sinsinawa Aug. 5, 1955, and her perpetual profession Aug. 5, 1958. She taught Spanish for 49 years and tutored for seven. Sister Philip Mary generously shared her love of Spanish with her students and any Sisters in the Congregation who could study with her in the summers. Her smiling encouragement was ever present, and her love of the language was contagious. She served in Wisconsin and Illinois.
In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Philip Mary taught at Edgewood High School, Madison, 1960-1961.
Sister Philip Mary was born May 10, 1931, in Dixon, Ill., the daughter of Philip and Lauretta (Reynolds) Reilly. Her parents; a sister, Elizabeth Robertson; and two brothers, the Rev. J. Philip Reilly and Thomas Reilly, preceded her in death. She is survived by nieces, nephews and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared 66 years of religious life.
