SINSINAWA — Sister Michelle Germanson, OP, died Oct. 21, 2020, at MacNeal Hospital, Berwyn, Ill. The funeral Mass was held at the Dominican motherhouse, Sinsinawa, Nov. 6, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sister Michelle made her first religious profession as a Dominican Sister of Sinsinawa Jan. 10, 1965, and her perpetual profession May 10, 1970. She taught for 11 years and served as principal for nine years before becoming dean of students at Rosary College (now Dominican University), River Forest, Ill., for six years. Sister Michelle’s most awesome contribution to education was as president and president emerita of Trinity High School, River Forest. Her tremendous energy and joy brought the love of sweet Jesus into every aspect of her life and ministries. She served in Illinois and Colorado.
Sister Michelle attended St. Patrick Grade School, Madison (1955-1958), and Edgewood High School, Madison (1958-1962). The family lived in the Madison area for many years.
Sister Michelle was born July 14, 1944, in Dixon, Ill., the daughter of Herbert and Florence (Blackburn) Germanson. Her parents; two brothers, Daniel Germanson and James Germanson; and a nephew preceded her in death. She is survived by a nephew, cousins and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared 55 years of religious life.
