SINSINAWA — Sr. Mary Woods, OP, died December 22, 2015, at St. Dominic Villa. Her religious name was Sr. John Mark. The funeral Mass was held in Queen of the Rosary Chapel at Sinsinawa December 29, 2015, followed by burial in the motherhouse cemetery.
Sister Mary made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican August 5, 1949, and her final profession August 5, 1952. She taught science and chemistry for 46 years, advised students for one year, and tutored for eight years. Sister Mary served the Sinsinawa Dominican Congregation as secretary for the Eastern Province, 1998-2004, and coordinated the Ministry Fund allocations, 2004-2011. She served in Illinois and Wisconsin.
In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Mary taught at Edgewood College, Madison, 1957-1958.
Sister Mary was born December 22, 1923, in Webster Groves, Mo., the daughter of John and Mary (Langdon) Woods. Her parents and a brother, Robert “Langdon” Woods, preceded her in death. She is survived by nieces, nephews, and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared life for 66 years.
