SINSINAWA, Wis. — Sister Mary Kent Pearson, OP, died Feb. 19, 2024, at St. Dominic Villa, Hazel Green, Wis. The funeral Mass was held Feb. 28 at St. Joseph Church, Hazel Green, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery, Sinsinawa.
Sister Mary Kent made her first profession as a Dominican Sister of Sinsinawa Aug. 5, 1954, and her perpetual profession Aug. 5, 1957. Her ministry was dedicated to teaching, administration, religious education and pastoral ministry. In Wisconsin, she was principal at St. John Vianney, Janesville; St. Dennis, Madison; and St. Jerome, Columbus. She taught at Sacred Heart, Reedsburg, and served at the motherhouse, Sinsinawa, as director of property and as director of housekeeping. In Illinois, Sister Mary Kent taught at St. Philip the Apostle, Northfield; St. Thomas the Apostle, Chicago; St. Sabina, Chicago; and Visitation, Kewanee. Elsewhere, she taught at St. Dominic, Denver, and at St. Albert the Great, Minneapolis. In Iowa, Sister Mary Kent served as assistant administrator at St. Dominic Villa, Dubuque; as associate pastor, pastoral minister, and coordinator of religious education at St. John the Baptist Parish, Peosta; and as pastoral minister at Holy Family Parish, Peosta.
Sister Mary Kent was born April 22, 1934, in Pontiac, Ill., the daughter of Kenneth and Dorothy (Davis) Pearson. Her parents and three brothers, David Pearson, Ronald Pearson, and Duane Pearson, preceded her in death. She is survived by her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared 69 years of religious life.
