SINSINAWA — Sister Mary Ann Schintz, OP, died Aug. 24, 2022, at St. Dominic Villa, Hazel Green, Wis. Her religious name was Sister Raoul. Natural burial took place Aug. 29 in the Motherhouse Cemetery, Sinsinawa, Wis. The funeral Mass was held at the motherhouse, Sinsinawa, Sept. 2.
Sister Mary Ann made her first profession as a Dominican Sister of Sinsinawa Oct. 5, 1958, and her perpetual profession Oct. 5, 1961. In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Mary Ann ministered at Edgewood College, Madison, as assistant registrar, 1958-1966; Marshall Hall head resident counselor, 1958-1961; and history professor, 1971-2003. In the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, Sister Mary Ann taught at Dominican High School, Whitefish Bay, 1966-1967. She learned Chinese and lived in Taipei, Taiwan, for one year as part of her doctoral studies, Sister Mary Ann has been described as determined, persistent, honest and indomitable. She instilled students with a sense of adventure in seeking a big world.
Sister Mary Ann was born May 9, 1934, in St. Paul, Minn., the daughter of Rollo and Anna (Landis) Schintz. Her parents and a sister, Betty Hancock, preceded her in death. She is survived by an aunt, nieces, nephews and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared 63 years of religious life.
