SINSINAWA — Sr. Marie Juan Maney, OP, died December 2, 2016, at St. Dominic Villa. The funeral Mass was held in Queen of the Rosary Chapel at Sinsinawa December 5, 2016, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sr. Marie Juan made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican August 5, 1947, and her final profession August 5, 1950. She taught music for 37 years, served as liturgist and music director for six years, and directed numerous choirs and coordinated musical events for 24 years.
She served in Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Nebraska and Minnesota. In the Diocese of Madison, Sr. Marie Juan taught at Edgewood College, 1979-1984. She ministered as organist and choir director at St. Augustine Parish, Platteville, 1990-2010, and at the Motherhouse, Sinsinawa, 1990-2014. Sr. Marie Juan orchestrated the Elizabethan Dinner, the Summer Organ Concert Series, and the annual Messiah Concert at Sinsinawa Mound.
Sr. Marie Juan was born April 25, 1927, in Big Bend, Wis., the daughter of Raymond and Kathleen (Small) Maney. Her parents and a brother preceded her in death. She is survived by two sisters, Eileen Nettesheim and Margaret Loughney, and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared life for 69 years.
