SINSINAWA — Sr. Marie Charlotte Schneider, OP, died May 10, 2021, at St. Dominic Villa, Hazel Green, Wis. The funeral Mass was held at the Dominican motherhouse, Sinsinawa, May 18, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sister Marie Charlotte made her first profession as a Dominican Sister of Sinsinawa Aug. 5, 1963, and her perpetual profession Aug. 5, 1968. She taught for 46 years and served as a family care partner for three years. Sister Marie Charlotte was regarded as a “phenomenal” 1st-grade teacher and received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching Mathematics from the state of Illinois in 1996. Her gentle demeanor and connection with her students made her classroom a warm and welcoming place to learn. She served in Illinois and Wisconsin.
In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Marie Charlotte taught at St. Mary, Portage, 1974-1980, and St. Joseph, Baraboo, 1980-1984. She ministered as a family care partner at the motherhouse, Sinsinawa, 2011-2014.
Sister Marie Charlotte was born Jan. 9, 1943, in Peoria, Ill., the daughter of Carl and Catherine (Haas) Schneider. Her parents preceded her in death. She is survived by a sister, Cleo Toohill; a brother, Marvin Schneider; nieces; nephews; and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared 57 years of religious life.
