SINSINAWA — Sr. Kathleen O’Donnell, OP, died Jan. 10, 2017, at St. Dominic Villa. Her religious name was Sr. Marie Winifred. The funeral Mass will be held at the Dominican motherhouse, Sinsinawa, Jan. 17, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sister Kathleen made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican August 5, 1946, and her final profession August 5, 1949. She taught for 24 years, six while also serving as principal, and served as director of the Dominican Education Center for five years, secretary/support staff for 20 years, and pastoral associate for two years. Sister Kathleen served in Oklahoma, the District of Columbia, Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Alabama.
In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Kathleen taught at St. Joseph, Baraboo, 1954-1959, and served as the director of the Dominican Education Center, Sinsinawa, 1968-1973.
Sister Kathleen was born Sept. 1, 1923, in Chicago, the daughter of Michael and Catherine (Maloney) O’Donnell. She is survived by nieces, nephews, and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared life for 70 years.
