SINSINAWA — Sr. Kathleen Loughrin, OP, died April 29, 2019, at St. Dominic Villa, Hazel Green, Wis. Her religious name was Sister Janetta. The funeral Mass was held at the Dominican motherhouse, Sinsinawa, May 6, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sister Kathleen made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican August 5, 1963, and her perpetual profession August 5, 1968. She dedicated herself to the education of students in the Madison (WI) Diocese for 51 years, serving as teacher and administrator.
In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Kathleen taught at Blessed Sacrament, Madison, 1965-1977, and served as principal at Sacred Heart, Reedsburg, 1977-1987, and St. John Vianney, Janesville, 1987-1990. She devoted 27 years to St. James School, Madison, as teacher, 1990-1993; principal, 1993-2015; administrator, 2016; and all-around assistant, 2016-2017.
Sister Kathleen was born February 12, 1943, in New London, Wis., the daughter of William and Genevieve (Leahy) Loughrin. Her parents and three sisters, Jane Loughrin, Mary Hoffmann, and Helen Hamrick, preceded her in death. She is survived by two sisters, Susan Malouf and Marge Carey; nieces; nephews; and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared 55 years of religious life
