SINSINAWA — Sr. Julie Coyne, OP, died June 18, 2016, at St. Dominic Villa. Her religious name was Sr. Mary Novella. The funeral Mass was held in Queen of the Rosary Chapel at Sinsinawa June 22, 2016, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sr. Julie made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican Aug. 5, 1952, and her final profession Aug. 5, 1955. She was an artist, taught for 46 years and served as principal for one year.
Sr. Julie served in Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota and Illinois. In the Diocese of Madison, Sr. Julie taught at St. Mary, Portage, 1960-1964.
Sr. Julie was born April 17, 1932, in Chicago, the daughter of John and Margaret (Rabbitt) Coyne. Her parents; a sister, Margaret “Therese” Kempczynski; and two brothers, Steve Coyne and John Coyne, preceded her in death.
She is survived by a sister, Mary Lee, nieces, nephews, and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared life for 63 years.
